CREATIVITY, SERVICE – HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL (HS STUCO)
Fresh from the break, we started off HS STUCO with a thorough 70-day reflection of where we are as an organization. We looked at what we have achieved, our plans for the rest of the academic year, and the steps we have to complete in order to complete such plans. You can read the entire reflection here. Overall, we concluded that we have really well thought-out plans, but need to work harder on making them a reality at a faster pace. Noting that we still have up to four other events to host, we really do have to try and get one event happening each month! Apart from the pace, however, we agreed that our teamwork and organization as a team is highly effective, and we would like to continue this trend [learning outcome addressed: increased awareness of own strengths and areas for growth].
Following up on the note that we have to work at a faster pace to make events happen, we are currently opening registrations for our second event, Clash Of The Talents (COTH), which is basically a talent show open for all middle school high school students. We announced the opening of registrations via our blog, which has became more prominent over the months as we consistently use it to post information. View our registration mechanism here. Furthermore, some people have also given me feedback saying that the like the FAQ blogpost I did for the Winter Dance, which is why I think it would be a great idea to do it again for COTH. This is the FAQ post for COTH. In addition to starting up on our new event, we have also held another FDD this month with the theme of Chinese New Year [learning outcome addressed: planned and initiated activities, worked collaboratively with others].
CREATIVITY, SERVICE – RIVERIA: ENGLISH FOR ALL
For Riveria, we will come back to our teaching mechanism and routine. Meanwhile, over the break, I have established contacts with students at Sekolah Pelita Harapan – Lippo Village (SPH – LV) and Mentari International School Jakarta (MISJ) about guiding them to establish a Riveria branch over at their school. Both representatives seem very eager with the idea, and has agreed to give it a try [learning outcome addressed: undertaken new challenges, developed new skills] . Over this next month, they will start to promote and gain members for their respective Riveria branches, and afterwards, I plan on hosting an inter-school branches conference here at SWA, where members of all branches could meet, exchange ideas, and learn from one another [learning outcome addressed: considered ethical implications of actions, worked collaboratively with others, planned and initiated activities]. This is the first time I have done something like this with one of my CAS activities – except for GINDO which has always been an inter-school initiative -, and this is also the first time any CAS group at SWA have tried branching out to other schools. I look forward to see the results, because ultimately this would help us of attaining our end-of-year goal of expanding our areas of service.
CREATIVITY, ACTION, SERVICE - GLOBAL ISSUES NETWORK INDONESIA (GINDO)
It is one month before the conference and we are gearing up for it! Our GINDO core meetings are happening more and more frequently, and we are finalizing all logistics aspects of the conference. With SWA’s responsibility of inviting schools, we currently have up to 20 schools from all across Indonesia registered for the conference, with the number of students close to 200! It is definitely exciting to see everything coming together, and although it is not my first time, this is the first time the organization has tried to organize the conference between more than two schools. After finalizing everything early next month, I look forward to seeing how the actual conference turns out [learning outcome addressed: planned and initiated activities, undertaken new challenges, worked collaboratively with others, developed new skills]!
CREATIVITY - MODEL UNITED NATIONS (MUN)
Starting off with MUN, I have planned all the simulation sessions we plan on having for the rest of the academic year. Although we are only eight people, we look forward to honing our research and speaking skills, so that we will be better prepared to start joining conferences next year. Amongst the topics we will be discussing include the trade embargo, rising sea levels, and wage for multi national corporations. I have chosen these topics, because they are quite general and mainstream when you attend conferences [learning outcome addressed: increased awareness of strengths and areas for growth, planned and initiated activities, considered ethical implications of actions, engaged with issues of global importance]. Hopefully, I will receive good reviews for the session I run, and I look forward to continue to improve the sessions with all the members we have [learning outcome addressed: worked collaboratively with others] .
ACTION - VOLLEYBALL TEAM
Although we have finished our big tournament for the year, the JAAC, we have chosen to continue to practice and hold friendly matches with neighboring school so as to continue to improve personally and as a team. The friendly matches are organized by our coach, and I will continue to improve my accuracy in setting and bumping, following my original objectives from the beginning of this school year [learning outcome addressed: worked collaboratively with others, increase strengths and areas for growth].
